Mission & goals
Initiative Europäische Nachbarschaft is a non-profit association based in Vienna. We strengthen the democratic participation of people with migration and refugee experience, with a particular focus on relations between Austria and Ukraine.
What we work for
Our aims are set out in § 2 of the statutes:
Democratic participation
Involving people with migration and refugee experience, especially from Central and Eastern Europe, in Austria’s social, cultural and political life.
Civic education
Information and advice on rights, institutions and ways to participate in Austria and the EU.
Dialogue
Mutual understanding between Austria and its neighbours, above all between Austria and Ukraine – in culture and science.
Self-organisation & equality
Strengthening migrant self-organisation, countering discrimination and supporting recognition of foreign qualifications.
The European idea
Promoting civil-society exchange and European integration.
Our principles
- Non-partisan. We do not support or fund parties or electoral lists. We work with politicians on specific issues, generally in cross-party formats.
- Non-denominational.
- Non-profit. Funds are used only for the purposes set out in the statutes.
- Open. Any individual or legal entity can become a member, regardless of citizenship.
